CHEM 106 - Chemistry in Our World


(3 S.H.)

Intended to introduce students to chemistry and give them an appreciation and understanding of the role chemistry plays in their everyday lives. Topics covered include atomic structure, bonding, water, acid rain, and energy. This course is intended both for General Education Program-MnTC and University Studies requirements. It is a first course for students who have not had high school chemistry and wish to prepare to take other chemistry classes. Students may elect to take the course with lab ( CHEM 107 - Chemistry in Our World with Lab ) which includes chemical demonstrations and use of the scientific method, including data collection and analysis. Meets GOAL 3 and GOAL 10. Grade or P/NC. Offered each semester. Note: Students may enroll in either CHEM 106 or CHEM 107 - Chemistry in Our World with Lab , but they cannot earn credit for both courses. Not open to students who have earned credit in CHEM 212 - Principles of Chemistry I .
