HERS 361 - Practicum in Clinical Exercise Science


(1-3 S.H.)

Students will be required to complete two semesters of practicum for one credit hour each semester for a total of two credit hours. Typically, the first practicum will be in the junior year and will be at WSU’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention Program. The second practicum will be completed with outpatients at Winona Health’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program and clinical diagnostic testing. Prerequisites: 2.8 major GPA, current First Aid and CPR/AED certification, background check, proof of health insurance, proof of current immunizations, and tuberculosis test. (1) Level I: BIOL 211 - Anatomy and Physiology I  and BIOL 212 - Anatomy and Physiology II ; ✽ HERS 205 - Nutrition for Lifetime Wellness , HERS 280 - Foundations of Exercise Science , △ HERS 340 - Physiology of Exercise , and HERS 380 - Laboratory Methods in Exercise Science  (or concurrent enrollment). (2) Level II: Satisfactory completion of Level I practicum; HERS 344 - Electrocardiography , HERS 460 - Nutrition for the Physically Active , and △ HERS 445 - Medical Aspects of Exercise  (or concurrent enrollment); NURS 361 - Pharmacology for Non-Nursing Majors , NURS 366 - Pathophysiology , and NURS 392 - Cardiac Risk Prevention  (or concurrent enrollment). Grade only. Offered each semester. Repeatable up to three times.
