MSW 510 - Social Work Foundations (2 S.H.)
This course introduces students to the historical development of social work and social welfare knowledge, philosophy, theory, and values and their contributions to today’s social work profession to provide a foundation for professional practice. Student’s begin developing their professional social work knowledge and values pertaining to ethics; human rights and social justice; research-practice interdependence; policy-practice interdependence; engagement, assessment, and intervention with diverse client systems; diversity and difference; and self-reflection and evaluation. Students have opportunities to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values in various course experiences. Prerequisite: admission to MSW program or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered each semester as needed.
