MSW 520 - Practice, Laws, and Policies


(3 S.H.)

This course empowers students to effectively navigate legal and policy arenas that pertain to their practice. Students  acquire knowledge of ethical, legal, and policy regulations and issues that they are likely to encounter, learn how to apply social work values to effectively practice in accord with these regulations and issues. Students learn how policies and laws may differentially impact members of various populations. Students receive and implement guidelines for effective cognitive and affective processing of ethical, legal, and policy matters. Students have opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values in various course experiences. Prerequisites: admission to MSW program and MSW 540 - Generalist Social Work Practice , or instructor permission. Grade or P/NC. Offered each semester as needed.
