SPAN 310 - Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers

(4 credits)

For students who grew up speaking Spanish at home or in an immersion context, this course focuses on the development of Spanish writing conventions (accent marks, spelling, punctuation, capitalization) as well as a sociolinguistically-informed understanding of Spanish in the United States (language maintenance, heritage language learners’ educational needs, “standard” Spanish vs. Spanglish). Students consider the role of language variation in society. Students entering the course are assumed to have intermediate to advanced speaking proficiency in Spanish. Meets GOAL 7 and GOAL 9. Grade only. Offered annually.
