◎ SOC 379 - Mixed Research Methods


(3 credits)

This course provides an advanced study of sociological research methods. Focused on a specific area of inquiry determined in advance by the instructor, students will examine how a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods that provide different insights during sociological investigations. Students will become adept at secondary research - identifying and evaluating published scholarly work - working individually and in small groups to prepare oral presentations of their findings in a seminar format. A final project will involve crafting a novel research project agenda on a topic of the student’s choosing. Prerequisites: Goal Area 1 completed, SOC 150 - Introduction to Sociology , STAT 110 - Fundamentals of Statistics  or ◆ PSY 231 - Statistics , and ◆ SOC 376 - Introduction to Social Research . Restricted to Sociology majors or minors or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered alternate years (usually spring semester).
