MSW 640 - Trauma-Informed Clinical Social Work Practice (2 credits)
This course provides students with foundational trauma-informed clinical social work knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes. Students explore the importance and impacts of trauma to clinical social work practice. Students develop an integrated approach to trauma-informed clinical social work practice. Students analyze key issues in trauma-informed clinical practice. Students compare and contrast the generalist social work intervention model with the trauma-informed clinical intervention model and explore key issues of therapeutic relationships. Students integrate assessment skills with acquired learning about trauma-informed clinical social work practice. Students learn to apply trauma-informed clinical social work practice with populations and situations marked by diversity and difference. Students have opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values in various course experiences. This course serves as a foundation for subsequent trauma-informed clinical practice coursework. Prerequisite: admission to MSW program or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered each semester as needed.
