◎ CMST 375 - Argumentation and Advocacy


(3 credits)

This course is an overview of argumentative strategies employed in the process of justifying conclusions and making decisions. Areas of study include the formation of claims, tests of evidence, and patterns of reasoning relevant to appeals of fact, value, and policy topics. Participants in the class use research, discussion, and practice sessions in argumentative speaking and writing to develop their critical thinking skills. Prerequisite: CMST 191 - Introduction to Public Speaking  or CMST 192 - Introduction to Effective Communication . Grade or P/NC. Offered annually.
