△ WGSS 374 - Queer Liberation Theories and Politics

(3 credits)

This course serves as an introduction to the methodological and theoretical interventions in dominant ideologies surrounding gender and sexuality; for instance, theories examining queer abolitionist practices, queer of color critique, and decolonizing gender. The readings will offer critiques of the ways in which gender and sexuality are constructed and policed, and provide a framework for deconstructing the binaries of hetero/homo and masculinity/femininity. Prerequisites: ENG 111 - College Reading and Writing , WGSS 148 - Introduction to Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies , WGSS 220 - Intersections of Privilege and Power  or WGSS 233 - Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Studies , or instructor permission. Grade or P/NC. Offered annually.
