MATH 222 - Data-Driven Mathematical Modeling

(3 credits)

Students in this course are introduced to the process of mathematical modeling through the analysis of data-motivated problems arising in such areas as data science, business/finance, sustainability, biology, geology, psychology/neuroscience, theory of sound (music), social justice, and economics. An inquiry-based learning approach is taken in exploring quantitative and qualitative application of dynamical systems, probability/statistics, machine learning, and optimization processes. Leveraging real data, students design, simulate (computationally), evaluate, analyze, and present mathematical models in multiple disciplines. Prerequisite: MATH 140 - Applied Calculus . Grade only. Offered annually (usually spring semester).
