MATH 100 - Mathematics for Sustainability (3 credits) Meets GOAL 4 and GOAL 10.
This course develops and applies mathematical concepts and tools to quantitatively explore sustainability issues. Topics addressed in the course will be explored from environmental, social, and economic perspectives wherever possible, and may include such topics as industrial agriculture, energy sustainability, population growth, ecological footprints, and the security of land and water resources. The course will survey, in varying degrees of depth and detail, mathematical topics ranging from set theory, probability/statistics, and graph theory to algebra, calculus, and differential equations. Grade only. Offered each semester. Note: This course fulfills certain Board of Teaching (BOT) requirements for education majors.
