SOC 431 - Social Class and Power


(3 credits)

This course addresses the study of stratification including an examination of the ways that social classes are constructed and measured, their membership, and their interaction with social, economic, and political power. The course will explore issues of poverty, examine the characteristics and changes within the middle class and the power dynamics of the wealthy. Theories of social inequality will also be addressed. Prerequisite: SOC 150 - Introduction to Sociology . Grade only. Offered alternate years.
