WGSS 233 - Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Studies


(3 credits) Meets GOAL 7 and GOAL 9.

This interdisciplinary course offers an introduction to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender studies. A variety of texts - personal accounts of people who identify as LGBTQIA+, media representations, historical accounts of the movement for gay rights, and scholarly articles about LGBTQIA+ issues from disciplines such as law and biology - will be used to teach students to critically examine LGBTQIA+ issues. In readings, writings, and discussions in the course, students will learn background information about LGBTQIA+ people and issues and acquire the skills necessary to thoughtfully evaluate evidence, rhetoric, and argument in discussions of topics related to the LGBTQIA+ community. Grade or P/NC. Offered alternate semesters.
