SPAN 475 - Introduction to Spanish Translation (4 credits)
This course is an introduction to translation theory, principles, and methodologies (Spanish to English, English to Spanish). Students analyze and translate texts from diverse genres (literary, medical, political, commercial, etc.) while reflecting on how rhetorical styles differ across languages and cultures. Students analyze advanced grammatical structures in Spanish and critically reflect on the representation of sociolinguistic variation from one language to another. Prerequisite: △ SPAN 301 - Spanish Composition and Conversation or SPAN 310 - Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers (or equivalent). Grade only. Offered alternate years (usually fall semester).
