◆ SOCW 410 - Analysis of Social Welfare Policy


(3 credits) Meets GEP Math/Critical Analysis Intensive.

This course is designed to increase the understanding of social welfare policy and involve generalist social workers in the practice and policy process. An analytic framework is presented to assist students in assessing existing social welfare policies. Limited enrollment. Prerequisites: Admission to the social work major and SOCW 380 - US Social Welfare Policy . Grade only. Offered each semester on Winona and Rochester campuses. Note: This course will undergo significant changes beginning January 1, 2026, including: New Course Number: 395; New Course Title: “Social Work Practice with Organizations”; New Course Description: “This practice course introduces students to social work practice with organizations, including government and human service agencies.  Students will develop skills for engaging, assessing, intervening, and evaluating social work practice at the organizational level.  Students will analyze and apply organizational practice and policy development through a lens of anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion.” In addition, Program permission will be required for registration.
