△ BIOL 498 - Biology Capstone: Scientific Writing and Communication (3 credits) Meets GEP Writing Intensive (Effective 1/1/2026)
Students will demonstrate scientific literacy through completion of a rigorous capstone project. The course will provide the framework for students to identify, explore, research, and present a Biology topic of their choosing. Students will complete a literature review, including searching databases for primary literature about recent advances in their topic of choice. Students will summarize their findings with short written article reviews, compile an outline, and write a comprehensive review paper about the topic. Finally, students will use their written outline and paper to create a seminar presentation and deliver that presentation to an audience of their peers. Prerequisites: △ BIOL 308 - Cell Biology , ◆ BIOL 310 - Genetics , BIOL 312 - General Ecology , and Instructor permission; Required minimum credits: 45. Grade only. Offered each semester. Note: Permission of instructor required.
