NURS 494 - Contemporary Film: Understanding the Patient’s Experience

This course draws upon contemporary film to illuminate the personal experiences of patients with physiological and/or psychiatric illness. Experiences of patients of all ages are considered in the context of their family, society, and the health care system. The content assists the student to develop appreciation for the patient’s voice, and a richer understanding of the concept of caring and the restorative power of compassion. Prerequisite: Junior standing or instructor permission. Grade or P/NC. Offered annually or when demand warrants.
