LGLS 380 - Legal Studies Internship

Legal Studies Internship is the capstone course in the Legal Studies program and is designed to support students’ transition from the classroom to professional legal practice. Students gain supervised workplace experience under a practicing attorney or qualified legal professional in a private law firm, public agency, corporate or government legal department, nonprofit organization, or other approved legal setting, and are encouraged to seek placements aligned with their professional goals. In addition to the field experience, students complete corresponding academic coursework that supports reflection, professional development, and assessment of program learning outcomes. Through the integration of practical experience and guided academic work, students demonstrate mastery of core competencies in legal research, writing, organization, communication, ethics, and critical analysis, culminating in a comprehensive portfolio evidencing readiness for entry into the legal profession. Prerequisites: △ LGLS 370 - Legal Research and Writing I, ◆ LGLS 372 - Legal Research and Writing II, LGLS 373 - Civil Procedure, LGLS 374 - Evidentiary Rules, LGLS 376 - Criminal Procedure and completion of portfolio. P/NC only. Offered each semester.
