SOCW 415 - Social Work Practice with Communities

(3 credits)

This practice course prepares students to work effectively within complex community settings. Students will learn theories, models, and skills used in facilitating community engagement and community change. Students will learn strategies for engaging stakeholders, assessing community strengths and needs, developing community level interventions, and assessing the outcomes. The course identifies people as being within diverse, often overlapping, community arrangements, such as urban, ethnic, and local and places special emphasis on approaches that strengthen socially just and culturally sensitive practice. Grade only. Offered each semester on Winona and Rochester campuses. Note: Program permission required for registration. Limited enrollment.
