BIOL 432 - Clinical Medical Imaging II

Concepts introduced in prior clinical imaging coursework are applied in this course through integrated clinical practice, laboratory practicum, and professional development. Students participate in supervised clinical rotations to gain experience with departmental workflow and to perform imaging examinations. Emphasis is placed on identification of relevant anatomy, image evaluation, positioning and protocol accuracy, and the impact of professionalism on clinical practice. This procedural course examines imaging of major body systems, including musculoskeletal and abdominal structures, with attention to patient positioning, protocol selection, and image analysis for routine and advanced examinations. Students explore adaptations for trauma, pediatric, and geriatric populations, as well as considerations for specialized and enhanced procedures. The course also addresses foundational imaging science and instrumentation. Students study the physical principles underlying image production, system components, and operational factors that influence image acquisition. Quantitative and conceptual approaches are used to analyze how adjustments in technical parameters affect image quality, enabling students to optimize imaging performance. Prerequisite: BIOL 366 - Clinical Medical Imaging I. Grade only. Offered each semester.
