DSCI 311 - Data Science Applications

The focus of this course will be on the methods and technologies used in the applications of data science to a variety of disciplines. The student will be exposed to the methods and processes for the curation and management of data, the summarization and visualization of data, machine learning algorithms, and the creation of data products for the communication of outcomes. The data science technologies used in this course will be accessible to students with a limited background in computing. Students will complete a data science project. Course not intended for DSCI or STAT majors. Students cannot receive credit for both HLA 311 and DSCI 311. Prerequisite: STAT 110 - Fundamentals of Statistics, STAT 210 - Statistics, ◆ STAT 301 - Statistical Thinking for Healthcare, STAT 303 - Introduction to Engineering Statistics, STAT 305 - Biometry, ◆ PSY 231 - Statistics, ◆ ECON 222 - Statistics for Business and Economics, or instructor permission. Grade or P/NC. Offered when demand warrants.
