ART 216 - Digital Fabrication (3 credits)
Introduction to digital fabrication as a creative design practice. Students learn core workflows for laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC routing, and related tools, using facilities in Art & Design and campus/community makerspaces. Emphasis is placed on preparing digital files, understanding materials and machine capabilities, and translating digital concepts into physical prototypes and artifacts. Studio projects explore form, function, and meaning in digitally fabricated work, with attention to safety, ethics, and sustainability. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing (15 credits) and ART 111 - Introduction to Design Thinking ; or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered when demand warrants.
