◆ HLA 303 - Applied Analytics for Healthcare Leaders


(3 credits) Meets GEP Math/Critical Analysis Intensive.

This fully online asynchronous course provides a comprehensive introduction to healthcare data analytics, equipping students with foundational skills to transform data into actionable insights for operational and strategic initiatives. Students will explore diverse healthcare data types, from clinical to financial records, and master the fundamentals of data governance, validation, and analytics methodologies, including descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analyses. The curriculum emphasizes applied learning, focusing on real-world applications such as staffing-to-workload modeling, performance metrics, and project management with data-driven risk tracking. The course culminates in an in-depth final project where students vet and analyze a simulated healthcare dataset, while also examining the critical role of emerging technologies like generative AI and NLP, ensuring a thorough understanding of current and future ethical considerations in the field. Prerequisites: HLA major and HLA 300 - Foundations for Health Professionals ; or permission by instructor and HLA Program Director. Grade only. Offered annually (usually fall semester).
