BIOL 316 - Molecular Ecology

(3 credits)

This course examines how molecular tools and the principles of molecular evolution are used to investigate biological change in natural populations of animals and plants. Integrating concepts from molecular evolution, ecology, and population genetics, students explore how genomic, proteomic, and epigenetic data reveal patterns of biodiversity, adaptation, species interactions, population connectivity, and disease dynamics. Through lectures, discussions of primary scientific literature, and hands-on computational analyses, students develop the theoretical and analytical skills needed to interpret molecular datasets. Prerequisites: BIOL 241 - Basics of Life  and BIOL 242 - Organismal Diversity . Grade only. Offered alternate semesters (usually spring).
