Education Studies Overview

Education Studies offers courses in the Foundations of Education (EFRT), Business Education (BUED), and Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS). Business Education (5-12 teaching licensure) prepares students to become middle and/or high school business teachers. Courses integrate technology, business, and teaching methodology to prepare students for future success teaching in a Business classroom. Foundations of Education (EFRT) offers undergraduate courses in the psychological, social, and philosophical foundations of education. These courses make up the professional education sequence and provide experiences that help education majors from all education licensure programs understand (1) the role and purpose of public education in a democratic society, (2) contemporary theories of human learning and development and their implications for classroom instruction, and (3) the construction and interpretation of teacher-generated and standardized assessments. EFRT courses help students understand the contexts from which students come, in which they learn, and to which they return; these courses also help WSU students become critical consumers of educational research.

In addition, EFRT offers undergraduate courses in the effective use of technology in classroom instruction. These courses explore the impact of technology on human learning and behavior, particularly its ability to expand students’ access to information, reduce the cognitive requirements of classroom tasks, and enable students to demonstrate understanding using various media.)
