HERS - Nutrition (NUTR) - Minor

The Nutrition minor is for individuals interested in gaining a nutrition knowledge base that will enhance future work in a community, school (classroom teaching), worksite or research setting. The focus of this minor is to prepare students to promote sound, evidence-based nutrition principles to physically and culturally diverse clients, making referrals to Registered Dietitians when necessary. The nutrition minor is designed to assist students who are considering pursuing further professional training in dietetics or graduate education in nutritional science. This minor exposes students to principles of nutritional research.

The minor is open to all HERS majors, School Health Teaching and Physical Education Teaching double majors, and Pre-Nursing majors. Enrollment in the minor is limited and competitive. To be eligible to apply for the Nutrition Minor, students must have the following prerequisite courses complete: BIOL 211 - Anatomy and Physiology I , BIOL 212 - Anatomy and Physiology II , ✽ HERS 205 - Nutrition for Lifetime Wellness  and be currently enrolled in, or have a plan to take, △ HERS 340 - Physiology of Exercise , CHEM 210 - General, Organic, and Biochemistry  or CHEM 212 - Principles of Chemistry I  and CHEM 213 - Principles of Chemistry II .
