20-21 S.H.

2.0 GPA required.

The reading minor is designed primarily for teacher candidates in education majors (such as Early Childhood and Elementary Education) who seek additional depth or preparation for delivering quality literacy instruction. While completion of the minor in itself does not provide additional teacher licensing, courses in the minor have been designed to lay the foundation for students wishing to seek a MN Teacher of Reading License in future professional development. Note: Admission to Teacher Education is required prior to completion of courses in the reading minor.

Teacher Education Licensure Program Information

Before a student is able to take Education courses needed for licensure, that student must first be admitted to the Teacher Education Unit. This process is competitive as the number of students who can be admitted each semester is limited. Admission is based on grades, passing the Basic Skills Exams and other measures. For more information on this Admission process, visit the Teacher Education Program Admissions page.

All Winona State University Teacher Education Licensure Programs  are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Please contact your program advisor for the latest information about program requirements whether you are (1) applying to a teacher education program, or (2) currently enrolled in a teacher education program.
