Middle Level Science (Teaching) (MLSC) - Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Colleges & Departments

31-38 S.H.

In cooperation with the science departments and the College of Education, this minor provides a pathway to a middle school (5 - 8) science endorsement. Students should be aware that the program described may change as the BOT considers changes to the science requirements for this endorsement. Students will need to work closely with their academic advisor to ensure that they will satisfy the BOT requirements. Successful completion of the Middle School Science program will enable a student to apply for an endorsement to teach general science in the middle school upon achieving passing scores for all the relevant Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLEs).

Teacher Education Licensure Program Information

Before a student is able to take Education courses needed for licensure, that student must first be admitted to the Teacher Education Unit. This process is competitive as the number of students who can be admitted each semester is limited. Admission is based on grades, passing the Basic Skills Exams and other measures. For more information on this Admission process, visit the Teacher Education Program Admissions page.

All Winona State University Teacher Education Licensure Programs  are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Please contact your program advisor for the latest information about program requirements whether you are (1) applying to a teacher education program, or (2) currently enrolled in a teacher education program.

Required Courses (28-32 S.H.)

Additional Requirements (3-6 S.H.)

Educational Foundations, Research, and Technology - EFRT (3 S.H.)

Note: The following is an additional requirement only if a student is K-6 seeking a middle school science endorsement. If a student is a secondary science major seeking a middle school science endorsement, this course is already required in that major program.

WSU policy requires a minor contain at least one course that is unique to the minor and not used in the major or additional requirements.
