21 S.H.

2.0 GPA required.

Letter grade required in all minor courses unless otherwise noted.

Must be accompanied with a Teacher Education Licensure major - admission required.

The Bilingual/Bicultural Education Minor program prepares future K-12 teachers to teach academic content (math, science, language arts, etc.) in two languages, such as English and Spanish. WSU students with certain majors can qualify for a Bilingual/Bicultural Education endorsement on their teaching licenses. The program offers 22 hours of clinical teaching in a bilingual classroom with guidance from a bilingual teacher and the program advisor. Bilingual/Bicultural Education teachers must demonstrate advanced spoken and written proficiency in English and the language of their students (e.g., Spanish). Our program prepares students to read, write, and speak at an advanced academic level so they can teach their students effectively in both languages.

Teacher Education Licensure Program Information

Students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Unit before taking Professional Education courses. This process is competitive; the number of students admitted each semester is limited. Admission is based on grades (2.75 GPA), passing Basic Skills Exams and other measures. For more information on this Admission process, visit the Teacher Education Program Admissions page.

All Winona State University Teacher Education Licensure Programs  are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Please contact your program advisor for the latest information about program requirements whether you are (1) applying to a teacher education program, or (2) currently enrolled in a teacher education program.

Course(s) Unique to Minor

WSU policy requires a minor contain at least one course unique to the minor and not used in major or additional requirements. See DARS for details.
