English: Applied and Professional Writing Major Map  

Overview

The Applied and Professional Writing major is designed for students who wish to be a writing specialist or who desire a career that depends upon strong writing and communication skills. Specific courses include technical writing, grant writing, editing professional documents, creative writing, and related courses that foster critical evaluation of ideas, the expression of those ideas, and the ethical implications of those ideas.

Students may become professional technical writers, editors, and writing specialists for the business, non-profit, and governmental spheres. The program will also prepare students for graduate study in rhetoric, professional writing, and other language-related fields.

Internship (3 S.H.)


Electives (10 S.H.)


  • 4 S.H. ENG at 200-level or above
  • 6 S.H. ENG at 300-level or above

Dual Degrees


Students wishing to complete two degrees concurrently, (example: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science) must complete a minimum of an additional 30 semester hours above the required 120-128 credit hours. Students must complete all major requirements under both degrees, including separate minors if required.
