Overview

This major is only available to students matriculating into WSU with an AS-P Early Childhood degree. A teacher of early childhood education is authorized to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children from birth through grade 6 in a variety of early childhood or public school P-6 settings. The early childhood education teacher collaborates with families, colleagues, and related service personnel to enhance the learning of all young children. Students in this program will be eligible for Early Childhood Education Licensure. This major is separate from Early Childhood/Elementary double major available at Winona State University.

Teacher Education Licensure Program Information

Students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Unit before taking Professional Education courses. This process is competitive; the number of students admitted each semester is limited. Admission is based on grades (2.75 GPA), passing Basic Skills Exams and other measures. For more information on this Admission process, visit the Teacher Education Program Admissions page.

All Winona State University Teacher Education Licensure Programs  are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Please contact your program advisor for the latest information about program requirements whether you are (1) applying to a teacher education program, or (2) currently enrolled in a teacher education program.

License Requirements (6 S.H.)

These courses are considered foundational for the rest of the major. C grade or better required.

Electives

A total of 120 S.H. are required for a Bachelor’s Degree. After General Education Program (GEP) and Major requirements are met, electives can be taken to meet the 120 S.H. requirement.
