Purpose
The teaching program prepares graduates for Minnesota certification in art (K-12) and is offered in conjunction with the College of Education. Teaching majors must take all courses in the Art (K-12) Professional Education Sequence in addition to courses in the content area. Teacher Education Licensure Program Information

All Winona State University Teacher Education Licensure Programs are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. Please contact your program academic advisor for the latest information about program requirements.
Criteria required to be met one semester before completing online application:
- 30 college level credits completed with no more than 4 credits of pass/no credit
- Cumulative G.P.A. of at least ≥ 2.75 based on 30 most recent credits including all credits per semester
- B grade or better in a 3-credit college level writing course (ENG 111 if taken at WSU)
- B grade or better in a 3-credit college level speech course (CMST 191 or 192 if taken at WSU)
- C grade or better in a 3-credit college level math course (Math 202 is required for Elementary and Early Childhood majors)
- Early Clinical experience; clinical hours ≥ 15 hours:
- Can be met by taking college level course(s) with clinical hours (including courses enrolled in the semester of the TE Admission application). Syllabus/clinical hour evaluation needed if non-WSU course.
- Can be met through a comparable work or volunteer experience completed after high school graduation. Complete Early Clinical Form with supervisor and return to 212 Cathedral.
General Education Courses (40 credits)
Goal 1: Communication (7 credits)
Both courses require B grade or better.
Goal 2: Critical Thinking
Fulfilled when all other goal areas fulfilled. Goal 3: Natural Science (7 credits)
Requires at least one course with lab and suggests courses from two different subject areas.
Goal 4: Math/Logical Reasoning (3-4 credits)
Goal 5: History & Social Behavioral Sciences (9 credits)
Requires courses from at least two different subject areas.
Goal 6: Humanities & Fine Arts (9 credits)
Required major courses ART 221 & ART 222 also count for this requirement. Additional required course must be in different subject area.
Goal 7: Human Diversity (3 credits)
Goal 8: Global Perspectives (3 credits)
Goal 9: Ethical and Civic Responsibility (3 credits)
Goal 10: People and the Environment (3 credits)
Physical Development and Wellness (2 credits)
Required major course HERS 204 also counts for this requirement.
Professional Education Sequence (36 credits)
Note: Teacher education majors must complete all Professional Education Sequence courses in addition to content area courses. Refer to Teacher Education Licensure Programs for more information.
