Mass Communication - Journalism (MCJ) - BA Major

Minor (or additional major if non-dual degree seeking) required.

2.5 GPA required overall; 2.0 GPA required in MCOM major.

C grade or better required in major courses.

12 credits of 300/400-level MCOM courses must be completed at WSU.

The Mass Communication major is divided among an academic core based on principles of inquiry, a set of core electives, and four options. This major prepares students to create, produce, deliver, and understand the effects of mediated messages. To accomplish the major, a student must complete the academic core and one of the options.

This major requires a minor. The minor cannot be in this option, nor can it be the general Mass Comm minor. An overall WSU GPA of 2.5 is required for graduation and for enrolling in many Mass Comm courses.

Dual Degrees


Students wishing to complete two degrees concurrently, (example: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science) must complete a minimum of an additional 30 credits above the required 120-128 credit hours. Students must complete all major requirements under both degrees, including separate minors if required.
