Program Admission


Complete admission courses with a C grade or better before applying to the Criminal Justice Program.

Notes


  1. Computer skills are necessary for employment in the criminal justice profession. Completing a computer science course is strongly recommended.
  2. Must be admitted to the Criminal Justice program to enroll in any 400-level or track course.
  3. All field courses have an additional fee to cover malpractice liability insurance.
  4. Upon application to the criminal justice program, select one or both specialization track options: Law Enforcement  or Corrections . If selecting both tracks, two separate internships are required: CJS 461 - Internship: Corrections  and CJS 462 - Internship: Law Enforcement .

Note


Students seeking peace officer licensure in the state of Minnesota must complete a POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) approved education program and skills program. Additional courses, beyond the required courses for the major, are required for POST certification. POST required courses count as electives within the program. These courses are subject to change based upon changes in POST learning objectives. Skills requirements are generally satisfied after graduation from the program. Students seeking POST licensure should speak with their advisor and/or the POST Coordinator for more information.
