This program provides Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) with a master’s degree and certification the opportunity to acquire a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). A DNP Project is completed and involves demonstrating knowledge and skills to enhance the quality and safety of healthcare in a variety of settings and for a variety of populations.

Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs

The Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs offer programs for nurses interested in post-nursing masters DNP education. Post-Master’s DNP Programs are in the following areas: Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist ; Family Nurse Practitioner ; Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ; Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner ; Nursing Leadership: Nursing and Organizational Leadership ; or Nursing Leadership: Practice and Leadership Innovations .
Prerequisites
- Applicants for this program must have completed a master’s in nursing with a focus as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Applicants will need to show evidence of the following content from the Master’s program, otherwise these courses will need to be taken:

- Nursing Research Review (modules) (not required)
- Other reviews (e.g., Theory, Stats) as needed (not required)

Credit Hours/Clinical Hours
31 credits (6 clinical scholarship credits, 360 total clinical hours) *
A total of 1,000 clinical/practicum hours are required for all graduates of a DNP program. This program provides 360 hours. The remaining 640 clinical/practicum hours may come from a previous master’s degree (appropriateness will be determined by faculty). Additional clinical/practicum courses may be necessary to achieve this requirement of 640 hours.
*Clinical/practicum hour ratio is 1 credit hour to 60 clinical/practice hours
