The Cybersecurity concentration within the Computer Science major prepares students to protect computer systems, networks, and information assets in an increasingly complex digital environment. Built on core computer science foundations, the concentration emphasizes system security, network defense, cryptography, secure software practices, and information assurance. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyze security risks, design secure computing environments, and respond effectively to cybersecurity threats.
Through specialized coursework and hands-on learning experiences, students apply cybersecurity principles to real-world problems while considering ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities. The interdisciplinary nature of the concentration encourages engagement with related areas such as mathematics, criminal justice, and law. Graduates are well prepared for entry-level cybersecurity roles, industry certification pathways, or further study in computer science or cybersecurity-related fields.
