BIOL 490 - Issues in Biology

(3 S.H.)

A course, intended for seniors, that promotes student understanding of the interrelated concerns of society and biology. Students will explore the social, ethical, and political implications of current issues in biology. Next, students will analyze a specific issue, develop arguments and counterarguments used by opposing positions, write a formal paper documenting at least two opposing views, and defend a position in a formal debate. Prerequisites: BIOL 308 - Cell Biology, ◆ BIOL 310 - Genetics, BIOL 312 - General Ecology and senior standing or instructor’s permission. Letter grade only. Offered yearly.
