MSW 630 - Multidimensional Clinical Assessment I


(2 S.H.)

This course is intended to provide students with the knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective abilities to conduct holistic clinical assessments. Students learn to effectively assess cultural, environmental, economic, spiritual, historical, gender, difference and diversity, and other issues that may clinically impact a client’s well-being. Students learn how to assess the impacts of trauma on a client’s well-being. Students learn about and how to utilize numerous instruments to measure a client’s state and change. Students are introduced to the appropriate use of mental health diagnostic tools such as the DSM. Students have opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values in various course experiences. This is the first part of a two-course sequence, aligned with MSW 631 - Multidimensional Clinical Assessment II . Prerequisite: MSW 530 - Understanding Social Work Research  or advanced standing status. Grade only. Offered each semester as needed.
