SPED 473 - Transition and Secondary Skills Instruction


(3 credits)

The course is for students preparing for the Academic and Behavior Strategist license and covers transition and instructional methods for teaching secondary students with mild disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, developmental cognitive disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, specific learning disabilities, and other health disabilities. Topics included are data interpretation, academic instruction, progress monitoring, assistive technology, transition resources, consultation, and collaboration. Prerequisites: SPED 300 - Children and Youth with Exceptionalities , SPED 405 - Student Management Systems , ◎ SPED 420 - Special Education Administrative Procedures , and admission to Teacher Education. Pre/corequisite: SPED 425 - Inclusion in Regular Classrooms . Corequisites: SPED 471 - Advanced Behavior Methods  and SPED 475 - Secondary Practicum for ABS . Grade only. Offered each semester.
