MSW 530 - Understanding Social Work Research


(3 credits)

This course provides students with the understanding of basic social work research principles and process so that they can effectively engage in research-informed practice and practice-informed research. Student understanding is gained through participation in a simulated or an ongoing research process. Students will experience the processes of issue identification, research question development, study population and methodology selection, ethical standards application, data collection, data analysis, influences of diversity and difference, and findings applications. Students have opportunities to demonstrate knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes in various course experiences. Prerequisites: admission to MSW program and MSW 540 - Generalist Social Work Practice , or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered each semester as needed.
