MSW 635 - Practice Evaluation and Supervision


(3 credits)

This course presents and analyzes foundational theories, models, research, and functions of clinical supervision and practice evaluation. Students learn supervisory skills and gain competencies in consultation within practice settings. The three functions of supervision:  supportive, educational, and administrative are examined. This course covers the supervisory process, relationship dynamics, evaluating one’s own social work practice, evaluating supervisee performance, diversity, and ethical and value considerations. Students have opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values in various course experiences. Prerequisites: admission to MSW program and MSW 690 - Clinical Practicum & Seminar I , or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered each semester as needed.
