SPAN 395 - Spanish Linguistics


(4 credits)

This course introduces students to Spanish as a linguistic system, including phonetics and phonology (sound system), morphology (formation of words), syntax (formation of phrases and sentences), and the study of language variation and change from diachronic (Latin to contemporary Spanish varieties) and synchronic (current sociolinguistic variation) perspectives. Prerequisite:   or SPAN 310 - Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers  or equivalent. Grade only. Offered annually.
