SPAN 450 - Bilingualism in the Spanish-Speaking World (4 credits)
This course examines bilingualism among Spanish-speakers through the study of bilingual language acquisition theory, language contact in the United States, Spain, and Latin America, and the sociopolitical attitudes and ideologies towards bilingual education. Students study theoretical models of how bilingualism develops, how bilingualism with other languages affects Spanish, and how the education of bilingual speakers is impacted by language ideologies. Taught in Spanish. Prerequisite: △ SPAN 301 - Spanish Composition and Conversation or SPAN 310 - Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers or equivalent. Grade or P/NC. Offered annually (usually spring semester).
