CAS 650 - Current Issues/Special Topics (3 credits)
The CAAS MS program seeks to elevate professionals working in the community or classroom with children and adolescents. Becoming a child advocate and aid in the advancement of professional practice. This course provides the opportunity to supplement the degree with timely current issues and trends within certain categories including, but not limited to: needs of immigrant learners, immigration trauma, children’s rights, religious trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, addressing difficult topics with children, parental rights, impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on academic, social, emotional and behavioral health, food insecurity, addictive diets, diet and behavior, cultural competency and more. Prerequisite: CAS 600 - Introduction to Child and Adolescent Studies . Grade only. Offered spring and summer terms. Repeatable once as topics change. Six credits required for CAS program.
