CE 590 - Addiction Counseling: Practicum


(1 or 3 credits)

This course provides a practical field-based experience (880 clock hours) in an addiction counseling setting, under the guidance of an on-site supervisor, as required specified by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) requirements. Students assume primary responsibility for locating and securing a practicum site, with the assistance and approval of the Addictions Counseling Certificate Program Coordinator. Prerequisites: Completion of all Addictions Counseling Certificate required courses ( CE 534 - Multiculturalism and Diversity , CE 550 - Addiction Counseling: Introduction to the Field , CE 555 - Addiction Counseling: Psychopharmacology , CE 560 - Addiction Counseling: Assessment and Treatment of Addictions and Co-occurring Disorders , CE 565 - Addiction Counseling: Theory and Practice , CE 633 - Ethical Practice and Social Change ) or in the final semester thereof. Grade only. Offered fall and summer terms. Note: Clinical Mental Health Counseling students complete 1 credit (combined with CE 680 & CE 690). Addiction Counseling Certificate students complete 2 semesters of CE 590 at 3 credits per term for a total of 6 credits.
