△ GEOS 441 - Paleontology and Paleoecology


(4 credits) Meets GEP Writing Intensive.

An introduction to the concepts and procedures of using fossils to solve problems in evolution, systematics, biostratigraphy, correlation, sedimentation, paleoecology, and global change. Also explores the taxonomy, anatomy and ecology of the major groups of fossil organisms. Lecture, laboratory and required field trips. Prerequisite:  , GEOS 301 - Field and Analytical Methods I , GEOS 305 - Earth Materials , and BIOL 242 - Organismal Diversity , or instructor permission. Grade only. Offered alternate years (usually fall semester). Note: Additional course fee.
