BIOL 314 - Current Issues in Plant Biology (4 S.H.)
This course reviews a broad range of current topics/issues in plant biology by way of discussion and laboratory. Some of the topics are controversial and will intersect with social, ethical, and political aspects of biology (i.e., biotechnology, ethnobotany). Other topics will introduce students to current methodologies (i.e., forensic botany, genetic engineering, phytoremediation) and unorthodox ways of thinking about plants (i.e., consider whether plants have intelligence, plant sex and sex change, tales from the underground, etc.). Lecture and laboratory. Prerequisites: BIOL 241 - Basics of Life and BIOL 242 - Organismal Diversity . Offered alternate years.
