Program Overview
The following programs are offered through the Business Education program at Winona State University:

Note: All Winona State University teacher education programs are continuously updated to reflect new licensure requirements from the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). Please contact your program advisor for the latest information about program requirements whether you are (1) applying to a teacher education program, or (2) currently enrolled in a teacher education program.
Business Education Teaching Major
The Business Education (Teaching) (BEDT) - BT Major prepares students to become teachers of business and technology at the 5-12 grade level. The curriculum includes coursework in the following areas: business and technology education, business foundations, and teacher education. During the final semester of the program, students are required to teach in a business education classroom on a full-time basis for one semester to fulfill their student teaching requirement.
Since Winona State is the only public university in Minnesota to offer the 5-12 Business Education teaching licensure, there are flexible learning options in this program. Students can complete business and technology education coursework online through WSU; business foundations coursework through WSU or through a preferred MN State institution; and education coursework through WSU or MSU-Mankato. *The Minnesota Standards of Effective Practice must be taken from a single PELSB-approved teacher preparation institution and verification of satisfactory completion must be provided. Students interested in this program should contact the Education Studies office for an advisor.
Training and Development Minor
The Business Education - Training and Development (TRDV) - Minor prepares students for positions in both informal training roles as well as in formal employee training and development programs. Since this program aims to accommodate many different majors as well as adult learners, faculty have arranged for the training and development course requirements to be offered entirely online. The curriculum includes coursework in the following areas: training theory and application, interpersonal business relations, technology education, human resources, adult and leadership education. These competency areas align with the standards established by the Association for Talent Development (ATD). Students interested in this program should contact the Education Studies office for an advisor.
Technical & Community College Transfer Policy for Business Education Teaching Majors
Students who have completed a one- or two-year business program at a technical or community college may apply for a transfer of approved business credits. Students’ transcripts are evaluated by Business Education faculty. (Refer to Admissions for information about transfer of technical or community college credits.) This transfer policy applies only to students majoring in the teaching of business education.
