Counselor Education - School Counseling - MS

49 credits

This program is under review to increase from 49 to 60 credits beginning Fall 2022.

The School Counseling program prepares program graduates for employment as K-12 school counselors. Successful completion of the program leads to recommendation for licensure as a school counselor in Minnesota or Wisconsin. If a student plans to become licensed in a state other than Minnesota or Wisconsin, they are advised to become familiar with the specific licensure requirements of the state in which they plan to practice. The School Counseling Program is CACREP and NCATE accredited.

Note

Minnesota and Wisconsin school counselor licensure standards specify preparation in exceptionality, for which we require an additional course to supplement students’ exposure to these issues in our required courses. See the Counselor Education Department Student Handbook for detailed information regarding school counselor licensure in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
