Graduate Nursing Certificate Programs


Grounded in an environment of scholarship, the mission of the WSU Department of Nursing is to educate knowledgeable caring, ethical, creative, and accountable nurse leaders who provide person- and relationship-centered care for individuals, families, groups, communities and populations in a diverse society. This mission is based on the beliefs that:

The Graduate Programs in Nursing offer six Graduate Certificate programs for nurses interested in post-nursing graduate education: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ; Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist ; Family Nurse Practitioner Nurse Educator ; Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner ; or Nursing and Organizational Leadership .

Graduate Certificate Nursing and Organizational Leadership


This certificate program is designed for nurses who already have a graduate degree in nursing and wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the principles and practice of nursing administration and leadership. The certificate program requires completion of a 24 credit plan of study that prepares nurses for nurse administration and leadership roles in a variety of health care settings. All of the courses are offered using distance teaching strategies. GC graduates are prepared for eligibility for the American Organization for Nurse Leaders (AONL) exam to become certified as an Executive in Nursing Practice (CENP) or a nurse manager and leader (CNML) or certification for Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or the Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Certification may also require a certain number of years of experience in a formal leader position.

Learners will work with their advisor to create a individualized plan of study that meets student learning needs and career goals. 6 credits required.

Clinical hours: (1 clinical credit = 60 hours of contact time)
